I won’t deny it: I didn’t quite like A Song of Ice and Fire, the very popular fantasy series by George R.R. Martin. Don’t get me wrong, those novels are well-written and very epic. I just didn’t like the fact that the story didn’t seem to be moving forward much. It has too much of a drama-show feel to it for my taste.

However, though I don’t like reading it, I do love watching drama shows. Therefore, I loved the news that A Song of Ice and Fire will be made into one. The series will premiere on HBO in March 2011, and so far it’s looking really epic.

A Game of Thrones, as the show is titled after the first book in the series, features many great actors like Sean Bean (Lord of the Rings) and Jason Momoa (Stargate, Conan the Barbarian). Just take a look at EW’s exclusive first look, or at some of these trailers and tell us what you think:

Unlike you, I thought the books were utterly amazing. Only the 4th was a bit of a let-down. That was mainly because of the yucky way he split it up.

I never watch TV, but I’ll probably torrent or whatever to check this out.

Yeah, I agree that the books were very good, I can however understand that it’s not for everyone…

    Oh this sure looks promising!

The last series-to-tv-show that I saw was The Legend of the Seeker (based on Sword of Truth) and well… The books aren’t that good but the show was even WORSE. I hated it.

This, however, looks like it’ll be a lot of fun! Sean Bean? Awesome! An A-list actor… I love it. The thing about the Legend of the Seeker that annoyed me so much was the acting (among other things). It was so glaringly bad. At least I can trust that that won’t be a problem for this show.

I do hope they keep to the story though.

Now, I need advice from the readers of A Song of Ice and Fire. Do I read the books first or do I just go ahead and watch the series?

Well, seeing as the mini-series isn’t out yet, it can’t be answered authoritatively. But if it’s like nearly everything else, you should wait to read it, and watch the mini-series first, since 97 percent of the time the books are much better, and thus what might be a very good TV series, will seem mediocre by comparison.
