The Ranting Dragon loves authors. I mean, they give us the books we love, obviously. What would our lives be without them? Yet, among those hordes of awesome authors might be that one special person… It’s time to confess our deepest secrets and show you exactly which authors our team of writers and editors crush on.

Here are, in no particular order, our crushes. They are a secret no more.

.

Joe Abercrombie
By Michael
I have a man-crush on Joe Abercrombie. I can’t think of another author whose style and wit make me so jealous of their ability, but at the same time so keen for the chance to sit down and have a beer. Book me in for a man-date, bromance, whatever you want to call it.
Blake Charlton
By James
Blake Charlton, author of the Spellwright trilogy. Not only is he incredibly handsome, but he’s smart as hell. On top of being a fantastic writer, he’s also a doctor. I don’t mean like a dentist or something where you have the spare time to write things, I mean like an emergency room doctor of badassery. He’s also a pretty great guy from what I’ve seen on Twitter and his site.
Cherie Priest
By Jake
She is the high priestess of steampunk, had blue hair at least once, likes her cat, and likes to play dress up. Enough said?
Sam Sykes
By Michelle
I’m going to have to give this one to Sam Sykes. Yes, the really tall angry guy who tweets a lot. He kind of reminds me of a grizzly bear but sexier. No one would mess with me if I was dating Sam Sykes. He’s got a messed up sense of humor, which is an absolute necessity if you’re to survive any extended amount of time with me. Liking dogs is a point in his favor, too. I’m also hoping this answer will afford me some protection if I ever annoy him.
Margaret Atwood
By Julia
Its not much of a secret, but I have a mad crush on Margaret Atwood, Canadian literary giant and winner of the first ever Arthur C. Clarke Award for her novel The Handmaid’s Tale.

Ranting Dragon’s Favorite… Villain!

No other character really shapes a story as much as the villain. The greatest books, movies, or shows are often the ones with the greatest villains. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that...

I was too slow for this but I think I would have said Patrick Rothfuss if we use crush in any kind of non-romantic way. He is hilarious, has an epic beard and started/runs an amazing charity.
