Stormdancer: Japanese Steampunk!

Postby The Ranting Dragon » Wed Mar 02, 2011 4:58 pm

If you're anything like me, that title made you click. I'm talking about the upcoming novel Stormdancer, Jay Kristoff's debut.

The Shōgunate of Shima is verging on environmental collapse; decimated by clockwork mechanization and toxic pollution. Befriending the last griffin alive on the island, a young woman pits herself against the authorities in the hope of seeing her homeland saved, her family freed and the crippled griffin fly again.

Interested? Find out more about the book in our short interview with Jay. It's only a couple questions, so well worth your time!

What do you guys think? Anticipating this book as much as I am?

This sounds pretty awesome. You're right seeing the words "Japanese Steampunk" automatically got my curiosity mechanisms wound up. I will now copy and paste Jay Kristoff's name into my Google search engine and see what I can find. Thanks for contributing to my already towering stack of to-read books for this year. Hopefully I can add more without it toppling over and crushing me.

I can't wait to read this one. I love everything Japanese or influenced by Japan... And to combine it with Steampunk in my opinion can only be a heavenly combination. _O_

P.S. I just created a Goodreads page for this book because there wasn't one yet! (Being a Goodreads Librarian makes my OCD life just a little better :p)

There is! September 18th. And the book has a pretty amazing cover as well. Two of them, in fact. I usually have a clear preference between British and American, but in this case, I have no clue. I want them both!

British:

American:

Not just that... the whole cover is amazing! I like how there's not as much color, except the cherry blossoms, and she doesn't have random patches of skin showing. Seriously, on the American cover, what on earth is she wearing that her hip is showing like that? And I don't think I'd want to wear something with only one long sleeve, that's just so weird. But of course she has to show off a tattoo on the American cover. Yeah, I definitely like the British one better.

If I had a tattoo like that, I'd probably wear weird clothes to show it off too! Or rather, I would always wear lots of clothes to hide it, but that's just a matter of personal taste.

Looks promising. And yeah, the British cover is much more artistic and aesthetically appealing.

Also, did you guys know, there's a few Chinese martial arts movies that have some steampunk elements in it.

Tai Chi 0 and it's sequel, Tai Chi Hero.
