You must like perfection a lot. Not married in real life? (Just teasing!)

Raoden always just seemed so perfect he wasn't human. Hey, he isn't human is he? He's Elantran!

Nothing wrong with perfection, is there? I bet she'll find a perfect man. :P

I like the shy girl in Warbreaker, btw. What's her name again?

Vivenna? Or Siri? I wouldn't really say either of them are shy, though...

I'm a huge fan of Terminator 2, which was Michael's choice.

I think I'll go with a slightly different type of sci-fi movie that I love. Gattica is my totally rockin' choice.

Gattaca looks awesome! :O Need to see!
I watch quite a little sci-fi actually. I'm going to say Star Trek IV: the Voyage Home. Whales shall save the world!

I also kinda liked the Island. More than I initially thought, anyway.
Space permitting.

I saw GATTACA for the first time in 10th grade. In biology class. The teacher was a nut. And awesome.

My short list was Serenity, Empire, and Inception. Honorable mention would the be the 2009 Star Trek.

I never much liked Inception. I felt that, with the premise, they should either have made it really spectacular, with lots of mindboggling special effects, or give it a really brilliant story, taking full advantage of the weirdness of dreams. It had both, but only to a small extend. Still a good movie, but a disappointment given the premise and how it was received by many.

I don't agree. Maybe I didn't have nearly as high as yours on expectations. I liked Inception bigtime.

The two friends and I discussed a lot of stuff endlessly after the movie. Especially the question of whether or not the main character really "won" or whether he was trapped endlessly in dreams.

I was very intrigued by Inception, the whole idea of dreams within dreams within dreams, and the details were awesome - the kick and the totems were my favourites! But somehow I felt it could've been done even better than it was. I'm not seeing it wasn't already good, but I got the feeling there was so much more potential to the concept.
Space permitting.

Almost exactly like Stephen, ever since I was a little kid I was always in love with Spiderman.

I dressed up as him for Halloween numerous times as a kid. Was my first favorite superhero. I'll always be nostalgic about him.

I saw this today and thought it was appropriate to share here.
Every kid today wants to be Batman, Superman, or Spider-man. Personally, I blame the Parents. If Parents were better at Parenting, kids wouldn't want to be orphans.

And what does it say when we culturally think that it takes being an orphan to be a superhero? Or a hero at all? You can add original X-men Cyclops to that list. And while Iron Man was older than the others when he lost his parents, he has a lot of the same orphan issues the others exhibit.

We think orphan, we think independence, school of hard knocks, survival. All traits which kind of lend themselves to the superhero motif.

We think messed up, we think lack of important socialization, we think emotional problems and anger, often aggression. Yes, your stereotype orphan makes the perfect superhero. Oh, wait.

Stephan wrote:We think messed up, we think lack of important socialization, we think emotional problems and anger, often aggression. Yes, your stereotype orphan makes the perfect superhero. Oh, wait.

Just to name a few...

Other orphans:
Harry Dresden (Dresden Files)
Harry Potter
Frodo Baggins (LotR)
Oliver Twist
Doc Savage
James (James and the Giant Peach)
James Bond
Baudelaire children (Series of Unfortunate Events)
King Arthur
Taran (Prydain Chronicles)
Every-other-Disney-character
Every-other-Star-Wars-character

Pseudo-Orphans (believed they were orphans)
Luke Skywalker (Star Wars)
Leia Organa (Star Wars)
Eragon (Inheritance Cycle)
Tavi (Codex Alera)
Vin (Mistborn) (ish)
Disney's Aladdin
Lyra (His Dark Materials)

Other reason orphans make good superhero-esque characters: they don't need an excuse to go around having adventures.

In other news, I love TV Tropes' entry for the Dresden Files on one of the pages I found (If you ever have any plans to read the series, please do NOT look at the spoilers):
The Dresden Files: Seriously, don't mess with Harry Dresden. If he doesn't fuego the crap out of you,
his vampire half-brother Thomas will.
If you're really lucky,
Grandpa Ebenezer will drop a Soviet satellite on your ass.

Want to hear an embarrassing story?

Too bad, I'm telling it anyway.

When I was little I was way too into Captain Planet and I decided I wanted to be a superhero myself. So I concocted a crime fighting team consisting of myself and my sister (who was a toddler at the time and couldn't talk). I had the power of fire, she had the power of water, although I doubt she could understand the concept.

The embarrassing part is that as a child I had no idea that nudity was not an acceptable superhero costume and thus we would gain our powers whenever we got naked.
The name of our superhero duo was 'The Nudie Rudies'.
I was confused when mum wouldn't let me play that game when guests were over.

I have to admit that Danilo Thann is loads of fun! xD My friend liked Elaith better, and we'd have endless confusing-for-outsiders banters where I kept repeating "grape" and she kept repeating "snake". Those were the days...

I'm sort of torn between Locke and Howl. I think I'll go with Howl, just for the line "Who, me? I assure you, my friends, I am cone sold stober."
...Before he walks into a wall. Repeatedly.
Plus he knows John Donne.

Yeah, Howl it is.
Space permitting.

Perhaps it suggest that culturally, we need to be a bit more merciful to our imaginative characters =p
