What are ways to pitch your book to a publishing company?

On November 19, 2011 I have to convince a new publishing company on why they should publish my new book. However, Im a bit confused on how I should pitch my book to them. I don't want to sound like a robot saying, "people of all ages will enjoy my book." Everyone uses that. Do you have any ideas on how I should pitch my book to the publishing company? Your help will be appreciated. God Bless.

Get an agent. A lot of publishing companies won't even look at your book unless it's brought to them through an agent.

However, it sounds like you've gotten something lined up with a publisher. In that case.... I got nothing. Sorry.

All I can think of, without knowing the particulars, is get an agent. Particularly if you hope/expect a contract to be drawn up.

Or, take a look at http://queryshark.blogspot.com/ When you are pitching your book in writing to an agent, you send a query letter. This blog is about how to write them. It may give you some ideas on how to pitch your book verbally.
