I debated adding the final volume in Christopher Paolini’s epic Inheritance Cycle to our list of ten reasons 2011 will be a great year. However, since Paolini is a slow author and there has been a lack of news about the progress of the book, I seriously doubted we would have a chance to read it this year.

Well, I was wrong! The sequel to Eragon, Eldest and Brisingr will be released on November 8th, 2011. This fourth and final book will be titled Inheritance and features a green dragon on its cover.

Though many think this series is badly written, many more eagerly anticipate the final book. You might call Paolini’s work the number one guilty pleasure for fantasy fans, and I am one of those fans who look forward to the book’s release but hardly dare admit it.

Look for the full press conference here.

“The burning questions asked by fans around the world will finally be answered in this last installment,” said Christopher Paolini. “All will be revealed!”

Inheritance (Inheritance Cycle #4) by Christoph...

There’s a scene in Inheritance, the final volume of Christopher Paolini’s Inheritance Cycle, where our protagonists spend fourteen pages negotiating a hallway leading straight to the evil...

The Alloy of Law, a Mistborn novel

We’ve previously reported about Death by Pizza, Brandon Sanderson’s side project during his three month break from writing, or well, from writing anything serious. Before finishing that project...

I didn’t find the series badly written so much as, well, barely worthy of commenting on. The style’s nothing special, the plot’s nothing new, but it doesn’t even have that fun nostalgic feel to it. At least not for me. The most noteworthy thing I found about it is that the author was so young when it got published. But then I heard that it was pretty much published by his parents, and even the novelty of that wore of pretty quickly. It’s got some good points, but not enough to really have held my interest for long.

Eragon I found rather fun, but nothing too special. Eldest was more of the same, though a little less fun imo. Brisingr was quite possibly to worst book I’ve ever read. It was strung together from a series of uninteresting and sometimes unnecesary events (this from someone who adores all of the WoT books!) and it threw me out of the narrative on at least 3 “Wait, what? Are you fucking serious?” moments. The biggest being Eragon’s cousin’s (whatshisname) battle scene at that town. I loated it so much that I really don’t care about what happens next at all anymore.

Hehe. I’ve never read the books, but I tried watching the movie — and it was SOOOO BAD. So now I’m scared to read the books, too.
